Teams with Byes: Bears, Dolphins, Rams, Giants

Some standings didn't change from last week:  There are still 4 teams with either 0 or 1 loss - The Pats, Colts, Cowboys, and Packers.  That will change; only 1 team will remain undefeated after this week.  There are still 4 gutter teams with 0-1 wins - The Dolphins, Rams, Falcons, and Jets.  Since both the Rams and Dolphins have byes this week, their winless status won't change until possibly week 10.

Many games were really hard to pick this week and I'm sure many would disagree with my choices.  I'll probably have my worst week ever this week!  Anyway, I chose the Packers because I think they're a little more dominant than the Chiefs.  The Jets are doing terribly this year and I don't think they'll show any improvement with the Redskins, plus I think the Redskins will want to prove why so many said they're a good team when they went against the Patriots.  The Saints are improving, but I don't think they'll be able to stand against the Jaguars.  The same for the Cardinals/Bucs game.  The Bucs made a hard fight last week against the Jaguars but lost by a single point.  I think they'll take their frustrations out on the Cards.  The Broncos seem to be in too much of a flux - some weeks they do okay, other weeks not so much.  I believe it will be one of the not so much weeks against the Lions.  The Panthers/Titans game was really hard to call but I went with the Titans because their win ratio is a bit better.  The Chargers seem to have found their niche, winning their past 3 games while the Vikings are 2-5.  I went with the Falcons over the 49ers because the 49ers have lost their past 5 games.  Neither one of these teams are doing very well so I suspect this will be a close game.  Both the Seahawks are Browns are 4-3 so this was another tough one.  I went with the Seahawks because they have more net points.  The Texans/Raiders game was another tough one.  Neither of these teams are doing very well (3-5 vs 2-5).  That single additional win is the only reason I gave this one to the Texans.  I think the Cowboys are absolutely stronger than the Eagles, and likewise the Steelers over the Ravens.

Now, probably one of the biggest games in the history of football is taking place this week in Indianapolis.  The undefeated Colts (7-0) are hosting the undefeated Patriots (8-0).  I think I read the last time 2 undefeated teams met so late in the season occurred in 1921.  It's no secret I'm a huge Patriots fan.  I also like the Colts - I have immense respect and admiration for Coach Dungy.  Some commentators are referring to the reigning Superbowl Champions as the home-field underdogs.  I think that's a mistake.  The Colts don't deserve to be underestimated.  They are obviously a strong team or they wouldn't be where they are, and this isn't the first year they've gone undefeated for so long.  I think this game will be a major fight - I saw one website refer to it as the War of 1812.  (18 being Manning's number and 12 being Brady's)  I thought that was clever.  There is no doubt both these teams have studied the other.  I believe it will be close - the closest point spread for the Patriots so far this year, but I do think they'll take the win.  (Sorry Stranger!)  I confess though, I'm nervous.

Those are my picks for week 9.  Happy Football everyone!  And Go Patriots!
