New NFL Rules

After five safety-oriented rule changes were made on Tuesday, the NFL followed with six more rules changes on Wednesday that seem to address common sense. Let's take a look at all 11, starting with the common sense rules put on the books yesterday.

NFL Football SuperBowl Picks Update

Yes, I know I’m a bit late on this one.  Sorry!  Trying to catch up with my drafts box.

Congratulations to the Pittsburgh Steelers on being the 1st team in NFL history to acquire 6 SuperBowl wins!

Condolences to the Arizona Cardinals.  You played a great game, and played your hearts out.  You have every reason to be proud of the effort you put into the game.

NFL Football SuperBowl Picks

Well, I caught a lot of heat for my Championship picks last week.  My Steelers friends were annoyed (okay, they hated me for a few hours) that I picked the Ravens.  Steelers won though so my friends had gloating rights.  And used them.  ;)

My husband thought I was insane to pick the Cardinals over the Eagles, but I was right on that one, so I had gloating rights.

Now we’re down to the wire and I have to choose.

The Steelers have a strong defense and are a great team.  No question.  But the Cardinals have Kurt Warner who’s had a lot of experience that Big Ben hasn’t had, and the Cards have been on an amazing roll.  Can they sustain that over this “bye week” in between the Championship and the SuperBowl?  Will Hines Ward be able to play?  The Steelers have won 2 of the 3 match-ups the teams have had since 1997.  Both teams have pros and cons and I do believe it’s going to be a tough, nail-biter of a game.

But I’m going with the Cardinals.  Yes, I know.  Everyone who’s anyone in football is going with the Steelers, but I’m going with my feeling.  If I’m wrong, I have no doubt you’ll all rub it in – and I’ll take it.  :)

NFL Football Play-offs WK 3 Picks Updates

Congratulations to the Arizona Cardinals!

Congratulations to the Pittsburgh Steelers!

Looks like the home teams had the advantage in these Championship games this year.

Our thoughts and prayers also go to those players on the other 30 teams who aren’t going to the Superbowl this year.  We pray that those injured this season recover soon and fully, and are able to play next year.  We thank you for the hours and hours of entertainment.  We applaud your efforts and talent to play the game and play it well.  We salute you!

NFL Football Play-offs WK 3 2008 Picks

I know, I know, I went with the underdogs in both games.  I don’t know why.

I know DarcZombie and KreeStee will hate me, at least during game time.  And they’ll take the gloat factor and rub it in for the rest of my life if I’m wrong.  I’m willing to live with that.  :)  (And just an aside for the 2 of you, here’s a link to something I saw on PFT.  I only put the link here, so you can sort of know what us Pats fans went through last year.  Sucks when people spew things about your team!)

Last games before the Superbowl!  Soak it up!  It’s going to be a long off-season.

NFL Football Play-offs WK 2 2008 Picks Updates

UPDATES: Well, the Titans are out!  And don’t I look like the genius I’m not!  LOL  Congratulation Ravens, and to Joe Flacco for being the 1st rookie quarterback to win 2 play-off games.  :)

UPDATES: Wow!  The Cardinals came to win!  Congratulations to the team, for the 1st time ever in the play-offs as the Arizona Cardinals.  Way to go!  And my sincerest apologies to Jake Del Homme.  I’m sorry your birthday sucked so bad.  Honest.

UPDATES: Last night, Saturday, before going to bed I told my husband I should change my pick for one of today’s games.  “Which one?” he wanted to know.  “I just have a gut feeling about the Eagles, I think they’re going to beat the Giants.”  For whatever reason, I didn’t do it.  And I didn’t get around to it before the game started today.  So, I’m wrong on the pick, but so, so glad the Giants lost!  Congratulations Eagles!

UPDATES: Way to go Steelers!  Congratulations!

NFL Football Play-offs WK 1 2008 Picks

Are we ready for some surprises?  These seem like such easy picks, so I’ll probably get them wrong.  Vikings and Cardinals fans don’t seem willing or able to buy play-off tickets to their games, despite the fact they’re home games, and at least for the Cardinals fans, it’s the first time in Arizona Cardinals history that the team is even going to the play-offs.  They’re giving the impression they don’t think their teams will win – who wants to go to a game when you’re confident your team will lose?  I know I wouldn’t.

I do believe the games will be challenging this weekend, though, and I think they’ll be pretty interesting.  Last year, no one expected the Giants to beat the Cowboys, or the Packers.  Or My Beloved Patriots.  *heavy sigh*  (No, I’m still not over it.)  Surprise, surprise.  So, Vikings and Cardinals fans, if you can manage it, go to the games and support your teams.  You just never know what might happen.  That’s why they play the games!

NFL Football WK 17 2008 Picks Updates

So far, 8-2 for the early games.  Woo!  And seriously, did anyone see the Giants or Bucs losing?  Seriously.  However, I can’t tell you how glad I am the Vikings won.  I’m NOT a fan of the Giants, or the Bears, so a Vikes win was a special thing indeed for me today.  :)  Not happy about how that affected my stats, but you probably heard me laughing all the way from here when I saw that the Giants lost by a single point in the final second of the game.

As for the afternoon games currently in progress, can you believe the Cowboys?  C’mon!  I thought for sure they’d fight a lot harder for that play-off spot.  Apparently not.  Think they can recover from a 44-3 deficit with 1 quarter left?  Yeah.  Me either.  So, for sure I lose on that stat.

Updates: Well, 11-4 at the end of the afternoon games, just one more left in regular season football.  ONE GAME LEFT!!  And it’s a fight for the NFC West Division Championship.  Who will take it, the Broncos or the Chargers?  Will I end the week at 11-5 or 12-4?  Yeah, I’m on tenterhooks, too.  ;)

STUPID Broncos!  So, I end up 11-5, with a season total of 162-93.  Anyway, here’s who’s going to the play-offs:

AFC NFC
Titans Giants
Steelers Panthers
Dolphins Vikings
Chargers Cardinals
Colts Falcons
Ravens Eagles

NFL Football WK 17 2008 Picks

This is it – the last week of regular season football.  We can weep after the Broncos – Chargers game Sunday night.  I think there will be a lot of shake-ups as teams make their last gasp to get into the play-offs, and there are a lot of competitive divisional games, too.  Ought to be some really great football today.  I think the Titans – Colts will be a good match-up, and the Dolphins – Jets will probably be a fight to the death.  Probably some fireworks at the Cowboys – Eagles game, and the Broncos – Chargers as well.  Rumor has it Cutler and Rivers don’t get along very well.  *cough*

The Lions – what can anyone say about the Lions?  Personally, I think they ought to go for the 0-16 record.  I mean, why not?  At least have a record in something, right?  I’ve read that the Lions owner has been instrumental in keeping the team in the dumps, and if I were a Lions fan, I’d probably be screaming that something be done, pronto.  Look what Parcells has done for the Dolphins in just a single season – last year 1-15, this year, in the play-off hunt, so there’s proof it can be done.  Not sure if Parcells could be lured away from Miami, but if I was the Lions owner, I’d be doing everything in my power to get Parcells up to Detroit.  My sympathies to Lions fans, I know it hurts.

NFL Football WK 16 2008 Picks Updates

Well, at least I’m off to a positive start this week!  Yay Colts!

UPDATES: 5-4 so far at the end of the early games this week.  Seven games to go and it’s not looking pretty for me.  Can you believe the Steelers gave it up to the Titans?  Me either!  I’ve always thought of the Titans as paper tigers, given their soft schedule this year.  Well, I guess they showed me!  Harumph!  And can I just say how happy I am that My Beloved Patriots stuffed it to the NFC West Champion Cardinals?  That’s 2 weeks in a row we’ve had 40+ on the scoreboard.  It’s a nice feeling.

UPDATES: Yikes, I’m 8-8 this week.  And I did a little counting and found I’m 8-9 on the Monday night games.  (WK 1 was a double header.)  Not a great year for me, stats-wise, just 151-88.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • There are no longer any teams with only a single win or loss.  Last week, (WK 15) the Titans lost and the Bengals won.
  • The Lions remain the only winless team, going into WK 16.  They have now tied the old Buc’s record of going 0-14.  The Buc’s did it their first season in the league, when seasons were just 14 games long.  (Last year the Dolphins got to 0-13, before winning their first game.)
