My Football Picks for Week 8

UPDATE: I am going to change my pick for the Texans/Chargers game to the Chargers. With the announcement Friday that the game would be played at Qualcomm, the Chargers home field, and with many of the fires under control now, as well as evacuees returning home, I think the Chargers will have a different attitude. I think they'll want to "win one for the Gipper," so to speak. They've mentioned wanting to give the home crowd something to cheer about, and I suspect they'll play their hearts out against the Texans.

Games at 1 pm eastern

  • Colts @ Panthers - Colts
  • Lions @ Bears - Lions
  • Steelers @ Bengals - Steelers
  • Giants @ Dolphins - Giants
  • Eagles @ Vikings - Eagles
  • Browns @ Rams - Browns
  • Raiders @ Titans - Titans

Games at 4ish pm eastern

  • Bills @ Jets - Bills
  • Texans @ Chargers - Chargers (revised)
  • Jaguars @ Buccaneers - Buccaneers
  • Redskins @ Patriots - Patriots
  • Saints @ 49ers - Saints

There are no Sunday Night games this week

Monday Night Game 8:30 pm eastern

  • Packers @ Broncos - Packers

Cardinals, Falcons, Ravens, Cowboys, Chiefs, Seahawks all have byes this week.

There are now just 4 outstanding teams with either 0 or 1 loss: Patriots, Colts, Cowboys, and Packers. There are 4 gutter teams with 0 or 1 wins: Dolphins, Rams, Falcons, and Jets.

So many tough calls this week! But I have made my picks and if you're interested, here's why. The Colts ... duh. Sorry Panthers, you're a good team, but it's the 7-0 Colts. I think the Lions will beat the Bears this week - the Lions are a bit stronger in my opinion. The Steelers/Bengals game promises to be a division fight but I think the Steelers are the better team right now. Giants over Dolphins ... the Giants have won their last 5 games and the Dolphins have not. Won. At all. The Eagles and Vikings are both 2-4 so this one was super tough to call. I went with the Eagles because they have more net points than the Vikings and also because I think they'll come out fighting after losing by a field goal to the Bears in wk 7. The Browns over the Rams because the Rams, like the Dolphins, have yet to win a game this year, and I don't think the Browns will allow themselves to fall to a winless team. I'm going with the Titans over the Raiders because the Titans are 3-1 on the road, plus they're 4-2, while the Raiders are only 2-4 with only a single win at home. The Bills/Jets game also promises to be a division battle and even though the Bills haven't won on the road, I don't think the Jets will be able to pull one out. I think the Bills have more fight in them. Now, the Texans/Chargers game is an incredibly tough one. The game is supposed to be played in San Diego, and if that were the case, I'd go with the Chargers. But due to the raging fires in Southern California, and Qualcomm Stadium being used for evacuees, no one's quite sure as of Wed. evening where the game's even going to be played. I saw on a football show that the Chargers players were having an incredibly hard time even focusing on this weeks game. For that reason, I'll hand this one to the Texans. And our prayers are with everyone out there in SoCal dealing with this crisis. Now, the Jaguars/Buccaneers game is one of the hardest for me. The Bucs have not lost at home, and the Jags have not lost on the road. Both have won 4 games. Both have suffered a host of injuries. I picked the Bucs for 2 reasons - they're at home, and they have their QB while it looks like the Jags QB could be out for a month. He'll absolutely be out against the Bucs. I went with the Patriots because it's the Pats, the 7-0 Pats. The Skins will give them a game, I have no doubt, but I think the Pats will prevail. I'm going with the Saints over the 49ers because the Saints have won their last 2 games, and the 49ers haven't won since their first 2 games. They're both 2-4. The Packers/Broncos game is a bit tough also, but the Broncos seem to really be struggling to me and I think the Pack is on a roll. Plus, the Packers are 2-0 on the road while the Broncos are 2-2 at home.

Those are my picks and I'm a bit nervous. I did find out however, that I'm a tad better than the guys over on www.hbo.com/infl, so I feel a little better, but a lot of the fans are doing really well, and I'm a bit behind them, percentage-wise. A lot of fans were 14-0 last week! But, like Farve, I'm "havin' fun," so I'll keep plugging away. :)

Happy Football!

Go Patriots!

It's all about YOU having FUN, isn't, FAVRE?? Huh?? Nevermind how you're hurting your team, or that you're keeping a potentially BETTER quarterback down, or that you're just plain UGLY and STUPID, YOU have to have FUUUUUUU-UNNN! And another thing, you're ...

... Oh. You're not Favre, are you?

In that case, it IS about having fun, and if you enjoy doing it, then more power to you! I say keep going and damned be whoever don't like it!

YAY YOU! WOO!

Oh, I and think I agree with most of your picks. Maybe ... maybe the Jags I disagree on. We'll have to see though.

LTY!
